Lizann is one of our 2010 Senior Reps. Lizann attends school at Coeur d’ Alene Charter School and enjoys reading, chior, theater, and to my discovery, motorcycles. We had a blast going around town finding unique backgrounds to shoot against. I think we did a great job creating a diverse assortment of images from her mini model shoot. These photos will be used in this year’s senior portrait marketing pieces. If you haven’t already scheduled your senior photos, contact us today. We’re running a special on senior portraits booked before August 1, 2009.

Little Elle’s first birthday is right around the corner. We did this fun and messy shoot this weekend. Elle’s mom & I just about died laughing when Elle freaked out when we put the angel wings on her. I know it sounds bad but it really was priceless. We also had a great time watching Elle discover cake. She wasn’t sure of it at first, but quickly realized the sugary frosting was amazingly tasty!

Most of us take pictures on a weekly or monthly basis, yet are all of the photos we’ve taken going to stand the test of time? Most likely not. While good photo paper is said to last 50-100 years, is that long enough? What about your great grandchildren? Will they be able to look though your photo albums and see all the memories you’ve created? Chances are the photos will have deteriorated, faded, been torn, or smudged. This is why it’s so important to properly archive your images. I’ll show you the proper steps to take whether you shoot digital or film.

You’ve just taken picture’s at your child’s school play and now want to go print the photos. When you go to your local lab, you’ll either download your memory card or have them develop your film. If you’re working with film, make sure you have them put your images on a CD. As film further slips into a thing of the past, you may find it hard to get reprints, etc. Digital shooters should also archive their images on a CD, whether on you own home computer or through your lab.

There are various ways for storing these archival CD’s as well. A jewel case, a paper CD sleeve, a CD album. Here’s a stylish way to display your archived CD’s and know exactly where they are at all times.

Make sure that as technology changes though you convert your digital media over. Remember the huge craze on Zip drives? Know where to get a computer with one today? I’m not saying that CD’s will be going away anytime soon but just keep in mind that one day you may need to convert your CD archives to another media form.

Now that you’ve received your printed photos, what are you going to do with them? Put them in a frame, a photo album, a photo storage box? Environmental elements can over time attack your photos and start to deteriorate them. Storing them in a frame for a short period of time if fine but be sure to switch your images around and place them back in an acid-free archival photo album. The type of album you choose is very important in preserving your images. Remember those sticky albums from the 80′s? Have you tried taking out one of your photos recently? I’ve found many of my pictures stuck like glue in them. A nice slip-in album so that the images can easily be removed is ideal for the preservation of photographs.

We’re now offering several archival albums ranging in sizes from a brag book you can stick in your purse to full size albums. Here’s a few of our favorites.

The Noci Brag Book by Kolo – $20-$30

The Hudson Classic Pocket Album – $45-$50

The Trivino Photo Binder – $30-$45

So what are you waiting for? Take a Saturday afternoon and go through your photos and make sure that they will make it for centuries to come. If you know of any other tips on preserving photographs or have some suggested albums you’ve found, post a comment about it for our readers.

Jessica is one of our 2010 Senior Reps. She is a cheerleader at Timberlake High School and is a very sweet girl. While the weather didn’t coorporate with us on her first model shoot, the reshoot in downtown Coeur d’ Alene turned out great! I can’t wait to do her senior session this summer!
